‘Architecture is the only art form that is functional.’

Being surrounded by the shapes of architecture has such a powerful impact in our lives as it is where we live, work and express our personalities and values. From classical to modern designs, architecture has surely evolved over time. For this building, I focused on the brutal industrial theme as it would blend well within its urban vicinity. This structure of glass curtain walls spanning steel girders that form the skeleton of the building is inspired from the 1920s International Style.  Glass and steel, in combination with less visible reinforced concrete, are the main materials of construction with the use of cantilevered construction. As per client’s request, the building consists of rentable retail units in the first 3 bottom floors and a whole topmost storey dedicated to residential use for the client’s family. A balcony stretching over the longitudinal lines of the building per floor is placed to allow more play of shadows and indirect natural lighting through the glassed units of the structure.
